Torture victim buried

RAWALPINDI, Aug 11: Mehak Ali, who was ruthlessly beaten to death by her father for her poor school result, was laid to rest in a Chak Shahzad graveyard.

Mehak’s body was handed over to her grieved mother by the police late on Wednesday night after the postmortem carried out at the DHQ hospital.

The mother took her body to her parents’ house in Chak Shahzad instead of her People’s colony house where she along with her husband and children has been living.

She left her husband’s house soon after the tragic incident.— Staff Reporter

Plaza gutted in Frash Town

ISLAMABAD, Aug 11: A three-storey plaza housing shops and stores of hardware, electricity and paint goods in the capital’s suburb was gutted in a fire on Thursday.

Fortunately, no loss of life was reported as the fire erupted in morning before the opening of the bazaar.

The fire broke out in a paint shop on the second floor of Bhati Plaza, located in the main bazaar of Frash Town at around 8:30am. Spreading quickly, the fire engulfed the plaza, gutting shops of hardware, paint and electricity goods.

As thick clouds of smoke billowed from the plaza, police, fire fighters and paramedics rushed to the spot. — Staff Reporter

Robbers on a looting spree

RAWALPINDI, Aug 11: The armed robbers struck at three different places in the city and looted gold ornaments, valuables and cash, the police said on Thursday.

One of the robbery victims was a prominent lawyer Saleem-ul-Haq. He said in his complaint that three persons forced their way into his house and made off with jewellery and other valuables.

In the other incident, Sajid Mehmood’s mother strolling outside her house in RA Bazaar area when two armed persons looted her of gold ornaments.

In the third incident, some gunmen entered into a house in Chaklala area and snatched away Rs60,000 and gold ornaments from the family.— Staff Reporter

MNA granted bail

RAWALPINDI, Aug 11: A local court on Thursday accepted bail plea of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MNA Anjum Aqeel in a fraud case. However, he could not be released due to some errors in the release orders.

Special Judge Central Syed Akhlaq Husain Shah granted him bail against the surety bonds worth Rs200,000.

MNA Anjum Aqeel did not appear before the court on the health grounds but Laique Khan, co-accused, was present in the court.

The court also extended his interim bail in the National Police Foundation (NPF) land scam case till September 7.

The complainant of the fraud case, Sabahat Ilyas presented the settlement deal between him and MNA Anjam Aqeel. After reviewing the agreement, the court accepted the MNA’s bail plea and four other accused in the case.— A Reporter
