Boy drowns in Leh Nullah

RAWALPINDI, Aug 10: A young boy drowned in Leh Nullah in Gulistan colony on Wednesday, rescuers and his family said.

Mohammad Khalid 13, son of Mohammad Arshad slipped into the Nullah while chasing a cricket ball and shortly afterwards he vanished in the deep water.

The divers of Rescue 1122 tried their best to fish out the body but had to give up due to darkness as water was more than 35 feet deep at the scene of accident. However, the rescue operation would be launched again in the morning with the help of divers from Navy. —Staff Reporter

Man killed on road

CHAKWAL, Aug 10: A soldier of Pakistan Army was killed in an accident, police said on Wednesday. Abdul Khaliq, a resident of Takia Shah Murad village was going to Khanpur village on his motorbike when he was hit by a passenger van killing him on the spot. The driver of the van managed to escape from the scene. The police registered a case and started investigation. — Correspondent

Petition dismissed

ISLAMABAD, Aug 10: Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday dismissed a petition filed by Quaid-i-Azam University controller examination against a show cause notice served on him by the management for harassing a female student.

The court observed that the petition was premature as no final order has been passed by the management against the petitioner. Single member bench comprising IHC Chief Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rehman was hearing of the petition filed by Sardar Mohammad Babar Khan, controller of examination. — Our Reporter

Protest rally

ATTOCK, Aug 10: Medical store owners, wholesalers and other local traders and people on Wednesday staged demonstration to condemn the murder of drug dealer Sahib Shah on Monday. The protesters were holding banners and chanting slogans against the incident demanding early arrest of the robbers. Sahib Shah was murdered and his brother injured in a daylight robbery in Attock city. — Correspondent

Heroin seized

ISLAMABAD, Aug 10: The Golra police on Wednesday arrested a narcotics peddler and recovered five-kg heroin from him.

A police team on a tip-off, stopped a public transport coming from Peshawar and during search recovered an envelop from a passenger which contained the heroin.

The police took him into custody and shifted him to police station. During interrogation the peddler disclosed that he was carrying the the narcotics for the first time. — Staff Reporter

The vendors have set up stalls at almost every small and big markets especially G-9 Markaz, Aabpara, F-10, I-10 Markaz and Super Market where people from all walks of life especially children purchase flags, bunting and badges. — APP
