ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Monday declared illegal the notification suspending Zafar Qureshi from his position of Additional Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), DawnNews reported.

A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, ruled against the suspension notification.

The court said obstructions were being created to hamper the investigation into the National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) financial scam for political reasons.

Mr Qureshi, who was investigating the scam in which the elder son of federal minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi is the main accused, was suspended on July 4.
