Feud claims life

LAKKI MARWAT, Aug 3: Police claimed to have arrested three persons, two of them in injured condition, after exchange of firing, while a man was killed over an old enmity in Tajazai in the jurisdiction of Ghaznikhel police station here on Wednesday.Acting on a tip-off, a police party raided a house in Tajazai, where a proclaimed absconder was reportedly hiding, an official said. He added that sensing the presence of police the outlaw and his harbourers opened fire.

An outlaw managed to escape, but the police succeeded in capturing the harbourers, Hazrat Ali, Noor Ali Shah and Akhtar Ali, two of them in injured condition, the official said.

Meanwhile, a man was gunned down over a blood feud in Tajazai locality. —Correspondent

Completion of schemes

PESHAWAR, Aug 3: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti has warned the construction firms to ensure use of quality material in construction of roads and other schemes and complete the projects within the stipulated time.

He was presiding over a meeting regarding review of ongoing and new schemes under communication sector in the province at his office here on Wednesday, says a handout.

Some of the officials who attended the meeting include Secretary C&W Engr Zahid Arif, general manager NHA and other high officials of the department.

On the occasion, the CM directed for speedy work on developmental schemes and said that use of substandard material will not be tolerated. —Bureau Report

Protest against loadshedding

PESHAWAR, Aug 3: The residents of various localities took out processions and blocked Warsak Road here on Wednesday for many hours in protest against excessive loadshedding.

The protesters, led by MPA Atif-ur-Rehman, blocked the road and chanted slogans against the Peshawar Electric Supply Company for what they said its failure to ensure smooth power supply to different localities.

The MPA told Dawn that the people had no other option but to come on the streets as the Pesco officials were least bothered to pay attention towards their problems. He said that the areas of Babo Garhi, T&T Colony, Shagai Hindkian, Kababyan, National Bank Colony and adjacent residential colonies were the worst affected.

The power outages had also created serious shortage of water in different areas, he added. —Bureau Report

US envoy calls on CM

PESHAWAR, Aug 3: US Counsel General in Peshawar Dr Marie Richards called on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti at his office here on Wednesday.

Matters pertaining to the overall situation of the province and affairs of other mutual interests remained under discussion on the occasion.

Later, Provincial Minister for Revenue Syed Qalbe Hassan also met the chief minister at his office. He informed the chief minister about the performance of his department and development activities in Kohat, says a handout. —Bureau Report

Illegal land transfer alleged

PESHAWAR, Aug 3: A retired military official, Haji Nadir Khan, of Karak has accused his younger brother Riayat Khan of illegally transferring his land in the revenue record and demanded action against him.

Speaking at a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Wednesday, the complainant said that he worked in the army as junior commissioned officer and educated his younger brother, enabled him to become senior member Board of Revenue but he misused his official powers and transferred several pieces of land to his and his sons’ names.

The 85-year-old ex-army man said that he had moved to a court against his brother but now he was sending him life threats to withdraw the cases. He said that NAB had initiated inquiry against him but the case was also hushed up. —Bureau Report

Faulty power transformer

TIMERGARA, Aug 3: The water supply to several villages of Talash valley has been suspended due to a fault in power transformer of the tube-well, residents say.

They said that transformer of the Soghalay Bangay water supply scheme had gone out of order some five days ago and the authorities concerned had been informed about the problem through a written complaint.

They said that despite the passage of five days, nothing had been done so far to resolve the problem. They demanded of the water supply and sanitation department to send a technician to fix the problem otherwise they would have no other option but to come on the road. —Correspondent
