QUETTA, July 31: A partial strike was observed in the city on Sunday on the call of Hazara Democratic Party (HDP) to condemn the terrorist attacks in which 19 members of Hazara community were killed in Sariab and Sabzal road areas on Friday and Saturday.

The proscribed Lashkar-i-Jhangvi claimed responsibility for the attacks.

On Sunday, trading centres and shops on Jinnah Road, Shahrah-i-Iqbal, Abdul Sattar Road, Mission Road, Circular Road, Alamdar Road and in Liaquat bazaar, Marriabad and Hazara town remained closed.

HDP activists burned tyres at Meezan and Junction chowks and tried to disrupt traffic. Police rounded up at least seven protesters.

HDP workers also assembled at the main chowk of the city and chanted slogans against the government for its failure to nab the killers of Hazara tribesmen.

The local administration deployed heavy contingents of police and Balochistan Constabulary at different points in the city, while Frontier Corps personnel were patrolling in sensitive areas to meet any eventuality.

No untoward incident was reported till filing of this dispatch.

A HDP spokesman claimed that police arrested 12 party men without any provocation.
