SAN JOSE, Nov 1: Costa Rican football was in a state of shock Friday after the suicide of 25-year-old goalkeeper Lester Morgan.

Police here said Morgan’s body was found in San Rafael de Heredia, 15km north of here, Friday morning.

Police spokesman William Charpantier confirmed press reports that Morgan had left letters to his famiy and the authorities which suggested financial problems had led him to take his own life.

However his teammates at Sport Club Herediano said he had appeared in good spirits and had begun training again after injury.

“It’s a very sad day,” said his side’s vice-president Federico Zamora.

Morgan was included in Costa Rica’s World Cup squad this summer, but did not play.—AFP
