ISLAMABAD, Nov 1: Alliance for Restoration of Democracy (ARD) Chairman Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan said on Friday that continuity of democratic values was necessary for the prosperity of the country.

He said that good governance and respect for human rights should be the top priorities of any government.

The ARD Chairman, who was speaking at a conference entitled “Good Governance and Human Rights,” organized by the International Human Rights Observer (IHRO), said that representatives of the people should be sincerely committed to ensure supremacy of human rights in the country.

He said that Islam has given the basic concept of good governance as it asks rulers to provide basic needs of life to a common man.

He said Islam has given the message of right of equality and security of life as well as liberty without any discrimination.

The ARD chief said that the 1973 Constitution was ideal for the people as it ensured the rights of the people of the four federating units.

He said that democracy was the only way to run a government properly as any other form of government was doomed.

The Nawabzada said that no political party wanted to create a deadlock, adding fruitful negotiations should continue till the restoration of complete democracy in the country.

He said the ARD wanted to provide security and honour to all the people and it aimed at making the government institutions service-oriented.—APP
