VEHARI, Oct 31: Four members of a tableeghi jamaat were killed and 36 others sustained injuries in an accident on the Lahore-Karachi Road near Chak 163/10-R, Khanewal.
A truck (8189-PRC) carrying 48 faithful was on its way to Karachi from Lahore when an oncoming speeding coach (8390-LXC) of New Khan company crashed into it. Consequently, four devotees died on the spot as the truck overturned. The dead were identified as Maulvi Abdul Mannan (Swabi), Abdul Haq (Mardan), Etbar Shah and Haji Khan (Kohistan).
The injured were admitted to the DHQ Hospital, Khanewal. The injured were identified as Sahibzada and Arzo Khan of Mardan, Arab Gul, Juma Din, Abdul Rashid, Behram Khan, Bahadur Ali, Rustam Khan, Razaq Khan, Fazal Rehman, Abdul Wahid, Jahanzaib, Azmat Khan, Shahid Khan, Muhtaj Khan, Munir, Gulzada, Ehsanullah Shah, Khan Mohammad, Aminullah and Azmat Gul of Swabi, Bungul Khan, Syed Akbar, Naseeruddin and Shams Rehman of Kohistan, Abdullah, Shah Fiaz, Sajjad Ali, Akram Khan, Niaz Khan and Wahid Khan of Noshera, Khursheed Khan, Habib Gul and Talawat of Abbotabad.
The coach driver escaped from the scene.
Khanewal Saddar police are going into the matter.
REMAND EXTENDED: A civil judge of Mailsi on Thursday extended for four days landlord Jahangir Tareen’s remand in cases of Sarwar Mai’s humiliation and kidnapping of her three kin.
The judge also extended till Nov 11 the pre-arrest bail of other accused — Muhammad Asghar, Muhammad Iqbal, Munshi Yasin and Muhammad Yar.
Meanwhile, source said that Munshi Yasin was arrested on Wednesday night in kidnapping case. The Mailsi police did not confirm the arrest.
