LAHORE, July 12: Robbers looted cash and foreign currency worth over Rs850,000 after killing an accountant of a flour mill and injuring a motorcyclist in two incidents here on Tuesday.

A group of robbers looted cash and US dollars worth over Rs500,000 from the office of a former federal minister’s son situated on Upper Mall in Racecourse police limits and escaped after strangling 55-year-old Ghulam Husain of Sargodha.

The wife of Aslam Hayat Qureshi, who is the son of former federal minister Zakir Qureshi and has set up his main office of Sargodha floor mill on Upper Mall, told the police that their accountant was asleep in late hours at the time of the incident.

Robina Qureshi said $4,000 and some cash went missing from the office. Police said the sweeper of the office situated at a big house, found the main entrance door opened, spotted Ghulam Husian dead on his bed and a piece of cloth around his neck.

A police investigator said according to neighbours some visitors knocked the door around 11:30 and entered the building after the victim opened the door.

He said it was believed that the suspects knew Ghulam Husian who exchanged local currency with US dollars on Monday evening as his employer Aslam had to go to Singapore for medical treatment of his niece.

He said company’s overseer Munir and the security guard were on leave on Tuesday.

He said a case had been registered with robbery and murder sections of the PPC. Further investigation is under way.

In another incident, two robbers stopped 29-year-old Usman Khalid near Accountant General of Punjab office in Mozang police limits and deprived him of Rs350,000 cash.

The suspects also injured him on resistance. Usman with a foot injury was admitted to Mayo Hospital. He was on his way home after withdrawing cash from a bank when the robbers chased him.

Two robbers stopped Muhammad Kashif and his family in Kahna police limits and snatched cash, jewellery and their car all worth Rs1.8 million.

Two robbers, riding a bike, approached Muhammad Rasheed in Muslim Town police limits and looted Rs440,000 at gunpoint. Rasheed was on his way by a car after drawing cash from a bank branch.
