HARIPUR, July 9: A woman lawyer and her male colleague filed a complaint against a senior lawyer and his juniors, alleging that they were beaten up in the courtroom here on Saturday.

Khairun Nisa advocate and Mohammad Akhtar advocate through a written complaint to additional sessions judge, Haripur, said that they were the counsel of a litigant, Mohammad Yousaf, in a case and had come from Taxila to record the statement of their witnesses in the court of Civil Judge Rashid Rauf, while the other party was being represented by senior lawyer Mushtaq Khan.

They claimed that during the cross-examination, Mr Khan exchanged hot word with Ms Khairun Nisa and fellow counsel Mr Akhtar.

Mr Khan, according to the complainants, used abusive language and attacked them with a stick and dragged them out of the courtroom with the help of his junior lawyers and clerks.

The complainants alleged that despite their repeated requests the court of civil judge did not stop the proceedings.

The aggrieved lawyers later approached the additional sessions judge and prayed for legal action against Mr Khan and his juniors for which the court asked the two parties to appear on July 16.

Meanwhile, talking to this correspondent the complainants said that they would also take up the matter with the Pakistan Bar Council. —Correspondent
