KARACHI, Oct 30: City Nazim Naimatullah Khan has convened a meeting of councillors of Union Council No 4, Keamari Town, to discuss the problems of the people living in Baba Bhit and Manora islands.
The City Nazim on Tuesday visited the islands for four hours and held meetings with the councillors, social workers and residents of the islands.
The public representatives apprised the Nazim of the problems, regarding health, education and cleanliness in these areas. The Nazim reviewed the arrangements of civic facilities.
During his visit to a secondary school at Bhit island, the Nazim ordered to hold an inquiry into the use of funds and appointed the district education officer as the inquiry officer.
He said after lifting of ban on appointments, preference would be given to the local teachers of the islands.
The Nazim directed the sewerage wing to prepare a feasibility report regarding sewerage facilities and installation of treatment plants at Baba and Bhit islands.
The Nazim also visited Salehabad village and Manora islands and discussed the problems of these areas with the people.
He assured the people that their problems would be solved on a priority basis.
MEMORIAL WALL: The Human Rights Education Programme has built a memorial wall in Hill Park, which carries the hand imprints of some 500 children.
City Nazim Naimatullah Khan on Wednesday participated in a children’s programme at the Park where in a briefing by a representative of the HREP, he was informed that the HREP carried out a campaign during an academic year to create awareness among children to make them realise that they were useful members of society.
The programme envisaged construction of a wall in a public park where children could leave their hand imprints.
City Nazim said there was also a need to develop an awareness about what ideology of Pakistan is, why the movement for a separate homeland was launched and what was the objective for its creation.
Naimatullah said that this would create a special feeling in the hearts of children about the country.—APP
