KARACHI: Two statues were unearthed during excavation work at the historic Lea Market in old city area on Friday in what officials believed as a significant archaeological discovery made during the market’s ongoing restoration.
The statues were found during the renovation and beautification project being carried out by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC). Officials said the “artefacts” were uncovered while workers were excavating parts of the market.
Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab said experts will examine the statues to determine their age and historical significance.
On his directives, the artefacts have been moved to a secure location to ensure their preservation.
Following the discovery, officials said further excavation was being done cautiously.
