Taseer murder case

RAWALPINDI, July 9: An anti-terrorism court hearing Salman Taseer murder case at Adiala jail on Saturday recorded the statement of another eyewitness and adjourned the hearing till July 16.

ATC-II Judge Syed Pervaiz Ali Shah recorded the statement of Assistant Sub Inspector Nadeem Asif.

While talking to newsmen, the defense lawyer Shujah-ur-Rehman Advocate said that ASI Nadeem Asif, in his statement, informed the court that he himself saw Malik Mumtaz Hussain Qadri, the Elite Force Jawan, firing gunshots at former Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer outside a restaurant in Islamabad. — A Reporter

TMA budget presented

TAXILA, July 9: The surplus and tax-free budget for the fiscal year 2011-2012 of the Town Municipal Administration (TMA) was presented here on Saturday with a total outlay of Rs477 million.

While addressing the budget session, Town Administrator Arif Raheem said that provision of clean drinking water, health facilities and completion of development projects within the stipulated period would be the top priority in the new fiscal year. He said as per directions of the Punjab government, no new taxes had been imposed and the ratio of the already imposed taxes was not enhanced. — Correspondent

Mosque firing accused held

TAXILA, July 9: One of the accused involved in firing on a mosque in Wah Cantonment was arrested on Saturday while hunt for other five was going on.

Police said Sajjad Ahmed was fleeing the area when he was arrested. However, the police could not recover any weapon used in the incident.

Efforts were underway to arrest other nominated accused including Mohammad Sadeeq, Mohammad Zubair and three unknown assailants. — Correspondent

Humorous magazine

ISLAMABAD, July 9: A quarterly magazine based on humorous poetry is being launched from the capital this month.

Renowned humorous poet and editor in chief Sarfraz Shahid made the announcement regarding the launch of the magazine here on Saturday.

‘Khushnuma’ would be the first of its kind of international magazines on humorous poetry from the federal capital.

The unique feature of the magazine is that it would cover all the activities relating to humorous functions, poetry, features, events and contributions of internationally-reputed humorous poets and other activities taking place in Islamabad. The online edition of the humorous magazine would be available in due course of time. — Staff Reporter
