GILGIT, July 7: A large number of residents of Gilgit city have demanded of the Special Communication Organisation (SCO) to upgrade its system to provide more internet connections.

“I am in dire need of an internet connection, but the SCO officials say that the system can't accommodate more connections,” said Sharjeel Ahmed, a resident.

The DSL users are growing day by day and those who have already got the connection complain about high charges of the facility.

“The rates of DSL in rest of country have decreased, while here in Gilgit the rates are still unaffordable,” said Akmal Khan, a businessman.

The state-run SCO enjoys monopoly as Internet Service Provider in Gilgit and needs to facilitate subscribers with up-to-date technology.
