ISLAMABAD: A commission empowered to probe May 2 incident of Abbottabad on Tuesday held a meeting to settle preliminary issues.

The meeting held in the Cabinet division was presided over by Justice Javed Iqbal, senior most judge of the Supreme Court.

The Commission discussed various aspects of conducting inquiry into the incident and took initial decisions for holding of regular meetings in the next week.

Justice Iqbal said that the commission may call anyone if desire including military and intelligence officials.

The meeting was attended by other members of the Commission including Secretary Cabinet Division Nargis Sethi, former Chairman ERRA Lt. General (retd) Nadeem Ahmad, Ashraf Jahangir and others.

The Commission was notified by the government after Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry had nominated Justice Javed Iqbal to head the inquiry commission to investigate US operation in Abbottabad to take out Al Qaeda kingpin Osama bin Laden.

A request was made to the Chief Justice after a joint resolution passed by the Parliament calling for an independent Commission.

The Government in its letter of June 18 through Ministry of Law and Justice made the request for nominating a Judge to act as President of Commission, to be constituted under section 3 of Pakistan Commission of Inquiry Act, 1956 (Act VI of 1956), for in- depth probe of the incident of May 2.
