KARACHI, July 4: A judicial magistrate on Monday remanded two suspects in judicial custody in the rape case of a schoolteacher till July 9.

Following the expiry of their physical remand, the investigation officer produced the suspects before the court of a judicial magistrate (south) on Monday.

The court sent them to prison on judicial remand till July 9 and directed the IO to submit a charge-sheet on the next hearing.

Meanwhile, the court also recorded the statement of the victim under Section 164 of the criminal procedure code in which she deposed that both the suspects had raped her. She also identified them before the magistrate.

According to the prosecution, the 46-year-old schoolteacher resided alone in a house in PECHS and on June 26 she called a sweeper, who works in her school, for some cleaning work at home.

The sweeper and his accomplice raped her at knifepoint and also robbed her of a cellphone and valuables, it added.

A case (FIR No.187/11) was registered against the suspects under Sections 376 (punishment for rape), 392 (punishment for robbery) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code on a complaint of the victim at the Tipu Sultan police station.
