THIS is with reference to Syed Asim Riaz’s letter ‘PAF Museum closure’ (June 29). After the grief which overtook the entire nation following PNS Mehran’s tragic incident, I was appalled to learn that the PAF Museum has been closed for the public.
The museum and its park is one of the cleanest and most well-kept public places in Pakistan. I must praise the PAF, in general, and the management of PAF Museum, in particular, for providing an excellent ambience, serene and clean environment to the residents of Karachi. But the news of its closure was a huge disappointment for everyone.
The May 22 terror attack was indeed a tragedy near the PAF Museum. But is the closure of the museum necessary, particularly when there are hardly any well-managed spots of entertainment for the people of Karachi.
I have visited the PAF Museum several times and found its security vigilant. The reason for the closure of the PAF Museum is beyond comprehension. There are many parks all over Pakistan around some important government installations and buildings. Will the government close those public places in case any terrorist attack occurs around them?
I request PAF authorities to review their decision and open this excellent facility for the entertainment-starved citizens, especially when children are having their two-month summer vacation.
