KARACHI, July 2: A man and his 12-year-old son were gunned down in a Bin Qasim area on Saturday allegedly by their relatives over an old rivalry between the two families, police said.

They said that victims Nazeer Bux and his son were attacked in their home in Hasan Umer Goth allegedly by Ahmed and Karim early in the morning when they were preparing to leave for work.

“Nazeer Bux was a vegetable seller in the same area while his son assi-sted him,” said SHO of the Shah Latif police station Sub-Inspector Malik Ishaq.

“We have identified the attackers through eyewitness accounts of area people and the victims’ family. They claimed that both Ahmed and Karim escaped after the firing.” However, he said, the motive behind the double murder was not clear as the police came to know through Nazeer Bux’s wife that the alleged killers were their relatives and they had a family feud for the last several years.

“Both parties — the victims and the accused — hailed from a Shikarpur area. Nazeer Bux had been settled in this area with his family for more than a year ago. His all relatives lived back in his village who are expected to arrive for the funeral of the victims,” said the SHO of the Shah Latif police station.

Shopkeeper shot dead

In Lines Area, a young sweet seller was gunned down when he was pulling down shutters of his shop in the early hour of Saturday.

The area police said that the armed riders targeted Muhammad Adeel outside his shop, Al-Habib Sweets, while he was preparing to return home after daylong work.

“He was hit by three bullets and died on the spot.

“The body was handed over to his family after medico-legal formalities at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre,” said SHO of the Brigade police station Inspector Akhtar Abbas.

“The victim was a resident of Khudadad Colony and his family denies his association with any political or religious group,” he said.
