SLIC pays Rs17bn in claims

KARACHI, Oct 29: The State Life Insurance Corporation (SLIC) has paid Rs17 billion claims on account of maturity and death of policyholders to 455,393 persons since 1972.

A press release of SLIC issued on Tuesday said Commerce Minister Abdul Razak Dawood attended a ceremony of SLIC to mark its 30th anniversary.

The minister was informed by the SLIC chairman Sameeul Hasan that life fund now amounts to Rs75 billion on December 31, 2001 and investment portfolio amounts to Rs73 billion.

The real estate of SLIC is worth Rs25 billion in the books and there are plans to construct new landmark buildings in larger towns and cities.
