KARACHI: Pakistan Army bagged 35 gold medals and finished at the top in both the male and female categories at the National Swimming Championship which was held at Jinnah Sport Complex in Islamabad from June 24-26.

Army’s tally of nineteen gold, seven silver, four bronze medals in the women’s category and sixteen gold, nine silver and six bronze in the men’s category was unbeatable.

Army’s Kiran Khan set a new record in the National Championship after she completed the 100m butterfly in 1:11.27 on the opening day.

Khan was awarded the best female swimmer while Israr Hussain of Army was declared the best male swimmer of the championship.

Speaking to Dawn.com, Khan said that she felt extremely happy for setting a new record in the National Championship.

“After a long time I broke my own national record which proved that I am back in form. I wanted to break the other two records as well but was unable to as the weather conditions had an effect on my fitness.”

Wapda finished second with two gold, twelve silver and fourteen bronze medals.
