KARACHI, June 26: Laurentian Red beat Karachi United 1-0 to win the 1st All-Karachi Ali Asghar Women Football Tournament at the CDGK Stadium here on Sunday.

The final was a tough game with both evenly-matched teams unable to score any goals during regulation time after which the action had to be extended into extra time.

It was in the 19th minute of the 20-minute extra time that International Nyla Rani finally managed to score for Laurentian Red. Getting the decider also earned her a Rs1,000 reward from Sindh Secretary for Sports and Youth Affairs Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, the chief guest on the occasion.

Earlier, Laurentian Blue edged out Crystal Women FC 1-0 to take the third position. The goal was scored by Uroosa Iqbal in the 20th minute.

The tournament winners Laurentian Red were presented Rs10,000 apart from the winners’ trophy as Karachi United, the runners-up, had to remain content with Rs5,000.

The rest of the six teams that participated in the eight-team competition were presented with Rs3,000 each.

Meanwhile, Roselba Fernandes with five goals, including a hat-trick, was declared the top-scorer of the event to receive a brand new mobile phone from the secretary sports.
