LAHORE, June 25: An expatriate Pakistani shot dead three members of his family and injured another over property dispute in two attacks in Naulakha and North Cantonment police precincts on Saturday.

The police said 45-year-old Muhammad Khalid Mir, who along with his family was permanently settled in the United Kingdom, fled after carrying out the attacks.

The apparent motive behind the incidents is a property dispute between the suspect and his two sisters.

A police officer told Dawn that Khalid, who had been staying at his mother’s home in Mohalla Dara Shikoh in Naulakha area, first shot at and injured his sister’s daughters Faiza, 24, and Hina, 22. The injured were taken to a hospital where Faiza succumbed to her wounds.

The officer said the accused then went to Tufail Road residence of his another sister Ruby and opened fire on her husband Khursheed Anwar, father of three, and Khursheed’s brother Mazhar Saeed. Both the siblings were taken to a hospital where they were pronounced dead.

Another police officer told this reporter that Khalid had been demanding share from his father’s property consisting of a few commercial plazas.

He said that investigation was in progress to ascertain the severity of the property dispute.

It transpired later that before going to Tufail Road, Khalid also stormed the residences of his maternal uncle in Misri Shah and another uncle in Gowalmandi but did not find them. Ruby alleged that her brother wanted occupying her two houses in Gawalmandi and Naulakha.

The investigation DIG formed two teams to solve the cases.

The Ghalib Market police said Muhammad Traiq, 40-year-old vegetable vendor, was asleep at his Street 17 house when unidentified men gunned him down and fled.
