LAHORE, June 23: Gujjarpura investigation police have unearthed the kidnap-cum-murder of a woman in six days, arresting the accused and seizing her corpse from Khanpur Canal, Kamoki.

Civil Lines SP (investigation) Capt Liaqat Ali Malik (retired) told Dawn on Thursday.

Police were reported that Nusrat Bibi, wife of Muhammad Shafique, of Karol village, went missing on June 12, and the police registered a case under Section 364 (kidnapping or abducting in order to murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of Muhammad Younas, victim's brother.

Police interrogated family members and the social acquaintances of Nusrat, a mother of three, and came to know that Muhammad Asghar, also father of three, had an affair with her.

The SP said Asghar, who was taken into custody for interrogation with the help of his cell phone data, confessed that he had killed Nusrat. He said he eloped with Nusrat and took her to Khanpur Canal in Sheikhupura on a motorcycle where they walked along the canal.

The suspect then strangled Nusrat only to take her four-tola gold ornaments. He threw her body into the canal and sold the gold ornaments in market.

Malik said after the accused confessed the offense on June 17, the police found the decomposed body of Nusrat caught in bushes along the canal near Joyanwala Chichu Ki Malyan, Kamoki. He said Section 302 of the PPC was added to the FIR.

He said the police also seized the cell phone and motorcycle of the suspect as evidence.

He said Asghar, who is a milk-seller, was on a six-day physical remand with the investigation police and would be produced before the court for a judicial remand.

Swindlers held: Mozang police claimed to have arrested three members of a swindlers' gang and recovered Rs9,800 cash, four cell phones, two fake number-plates, a pistol, a jeep and a car from them.

Civil Lines SP (Operations) Muhammad Omer Saeed took notice of rising incidence of swindling cases in Mozang. On SP's direction, the Mozang SHO and his team traced the whereabouts of the Shakeel gang and managed to arrest Shakeel Ahmad of Shahdara and his accomplices Mujahid Hussain of Kot Addu and Muhammad Bilal of Gujranwala from Lake Road.

The accused confessed to committing the crime in Mozang and other areas. The suspects were handed over to the investigation wing for further interrogation.
