THIS refers to encroachments in Bahadurabad, Karachi, which have become a nuisance for the residents and the commuters as well.

Once a peaceful society, Bahadurabad has now been converted into a paradise of encroachers. If one visits Bahadurabad one will find Alamgir Road taken over by fruit-sellers who have converted it into a ‘fruit street’. If one visits a super store in the market next to Bahadur Yar Jung Library, the road has been sold out by the city government to street vendors.

The way encroachment is being done is a big law and order problem. There are a number of coeducational institutions in the area which can become a prime target of these encroachers.

The New Town police do not act against the encroachers for obvious reasons. Almost every house on the Sirajudaula Road has been burgled once. I have been robbed twice.

The responsibility of the whole situation lies on Bahadur Yar Jung Society which has miserably failed. The society does not function because elections were held recently and the chairman of the society lost but using his influence he got the results put in abeyance.

An inquiry was made by the Deputy District Officer, Hafiz Syed Rafiuddin, who upheld the results of election, declaring ex-chairman and former honorary secretary defaulters. But the sad part is that the registrar cooperative societies, Sindh, has failed to take any decision.

I would request all authorities concerned to stop injustice and get the accounts of Bahadurabad society audited.
