KOHAT, June 20: Suspected militants attacked a house late on Sunday night, killing two females and injuring four others. The incident occurred in Hayatabad locality of Hangu.

Official sources said unknown armed men attacked the house of one Abdullah of Maulana Hanfi group loyal to Haji Gul Bahadar faction of the banned TTP with automatic weapons on Sunday night. It was learnt that Maulana Hanfi himself and his three companions had been found involved in the IED attack which killed former irrigation minister Ghani-ur-Rehman.

Abdullah has now reportedly left the group.

The firing resulted in the death of a woman, Kaneeza Bibi and a girl, Hajra Bibi, 12. The owner of the house, Abdullah, his sister-in-law Meraj Bibi, Nazia Bibi (10) and Asma Bibi (7) were injured in the attack. Abdullah was referred to Peshawar while the other injured were admitted in the Hangu hospital.

The police reached the scene but not before the culprits had made their escape good. The Hangu city police registered a case against unidentified assailants and launched investigations.

SHOT DEAD: A man killed his brother and sister-in-law over a family dispute in Kahi area of Hangu on Monday. The police said Shermat Khan shot dead his brother, Javed, and his wife Zenab Bibi after exchanging hot words with him. The police said the murderer escaped from the scene.

HASHISH SEIZED: The police, on a tip-off, seized a Karachi-bound consignment of fine quality hashish from a vehicle near toll plaza on Indus Highway on Monday.

A police team stopped a vehicle number-LXE-4328 near the Kohat tunnel toll plaza and checked it for drugs. Packets of 46kg fine quality heroin had been hidden in the secret cavities of the vehicle. The consignment was going from Darra Adam Khel to Karachi. The police arrested two smugglers identified as Sher Azam of Kohat and Meraj Gul of Orakzai Agency and impounded the vehicle.

DROWNS: A seven-year-old boy drowned in a well inside his home in Jungle Khel area on Monday.

Haris, son of Tariq, was playing in the yard of his house when he fell into the well.
