SUKKUR, Oct 26: Hundreds of growers of Mubarikpur and Dhandi union councils staged a protest demonstration in front of the press club here on Saturday against the shortage of irrigation water.

The Nazim of Dhandi union council, Lal Shah, and the Nazim of Mubarikpur union council, Sher Mohammad Maher, led the demonstration.

Speaking on the occasion, they said the shortage of water in Dhandi Minor had affected rice, sugarcane and cotton crops.

They alleged officials of the irrigation department were demanding money from growers to release water.

They demanded of the Sindh governor to initiate an inquiry against the irrigation officials concerned.

Later, the protestors staged demonstrations in front of the district Nazim office and the house of an MNA-elect from Sukkur, Abdul Mujeeb Pirzada.

COP KILLED: A police constable of the Bahoo Khoso police station, Jacobabad district, was killed on Saturday when unidentified persons opened fire.
