LAHORE, June 14: A competitive card of six events has been drawn for the Lahore Gymkhana midweek day/night races at the Racecourse on Wednesday.

With the summer turning hot in Lahore, the number of runners in races has shown a downward slide to six from 13, who are to take part in day/night racing. In spite of the low turnout, there are some close contests expected to provide thrills to connoisseurs of the equine sports who will brave the scorching heat to attend races.

The feature and the sixth race, the Sahiwal Plate class VII division I, to be gone over the sprinting distance of 1,000 metres, has seven runners. With no one outstanding performer in the acceptors’ line-up, the event seems an open affair.

On recent form and performance, thee of them look on chance — Miano, Untar and Jungle Da Badshah. By virtue of her fluent victory last Wednesday, five-year-old chestnut mare Miano looks to be enjoying an edge but not on speed and classification that makes the other two real contenders.

Puma Dynasty, Miss Muga and Saeen Baba are the prominent runners in the 11-horse field for the supporting and the fifth race. Four-year-old chestnut colt Puma Dynasty, who was beaten by Miano, should make amends in this race.

Gul-e-Nargis, Hadi Prince and Red Eye are the runners in form and should decide about the winner in the fourth race. Four-year-old colt Naveed Prince is good but running after a long absence from the track.

Four races will be contested over 900 metres and two over 1,000 metres. The first race will go under starter order at 5.00pm.
