National Assembly may meet by Nov 7

ISLAMABAD, Oct 25: The federal government said on Friday the first session of the National Assembly would “probably” be convened in the first week of next month.

The federal law and justice ministry said its parliamentary division was working actively for convening the National Assembly session as early as possible in accordance with the relevant prescribed rule/laws.

It said there were some pre-requisites/requirements which were required to be met before the session was convened.

“Now National Assembly is near to completion of its legal formalities and requirements so it may be probably convened in the first week of next month,” it said.

The ministry announcement said the “present government has held free, fair and transparent elections of the National Assembly and provincial assemblies and would transfer power to the elected representatives of the people.”

It said this was transitional period and, therefore, it had taken some time to formalise the pre-requisites of transfer of power to civil government, and added that the government wanted to give appropriate period of time to political parties to prepare themselves for handling the affairs effectively with their free choice.
