HARIPUR, June 12: Police have busted a small distillery and recovered a big quantity of moonshine from a house and a car in Khanpur.

They also arrested three drug peddlers the other day, including the owner of the unit, who were allegedly involved in liquor selling business for the last several years.

On a tip-off about smuggling of liquor to Punjab from Khanpur, a police party, headed by SHO Basheer Khan, stopped a car (PN-4100) and during search recovered 450 bottles of liquor from its boot.

Later, on the lead of the accused the police also raided a house in old Khanpur where a small manufacturing unit for distilling and filing of liquor in bottles was installed.

During the raid, the police confiscated the unit and recovered fake stickers and seals of a foreign company, 49 bottles of liquor in two cartons and four drums full of alcohol.

The alcohol, according to SHO, was used to be marketed in bottles having stickers of a foreign company.

Those arrested were identified as Mohammad Mushtaq, Asim Shah and Waheed Mehmood.

TIMBER SEIZED:

Local forest authorities seized a truck loaded with timber from the city area here on Friday night. The timber was being smuggled to Haripur from Mansehra, police said.
