HYDERABAD, June 12: Renowned novelist, short story writer and playwright Tariq Alam |Abro was laid to rest in the Jamshoro graveyard near the Sindh University on Sunday.

He had died in Karachi Civil Hospital on Saturday night and the body was brought to Jamshoro on Sunday. He has left behind his wife Razia Tariq and two sons.

Hundreds of writers and friends of the great writer including Mushtaque Phull, Taj Joyo, Madad Ali Sindhi, Inayat Baloch, Shoukat Shoro, Mehmood Mughal, Professor Inam Shaikh, Professor Zanwar Naqvi, Mohammad Qasim Maka and Hassan Dars, and employees of Sindh University and Sindhi Adabi Board attended the funeral.

Director of culture department Manzoor Kanasro, also attended the funeral and laid wreaths on his grave.

He also conveyed condolences to members of the family on behalf of Culture Minister Sassui Palijo.

In her message Ms Sassui said that Tariq Abro was a great short story writer, novelist and poet and with his death Sindhi literature had suffered a great loss.

Ten editions of his most popular novel, 'Rehji Wayal Manzar', (unseen scenes) have been published.

A couple of days ago writers Noorul Huda Shah, Naseer Mirza and other literary figures had written a letter to President Asif Ali Zardari, calling for a special grant for Tariq Aabro's treatment abroad because he had been advised kidney and liver transplant.
