SHIKARPUR, June 12: Three men were killed in a clash between two groups of farmers following a dispute over water-sharing in the kutcha area near Madeji on Sunday.
The victims were identified as Mujeeb Jeho, Ghulam Nabi Jeho and Bahar Jeho.
No FIR was registered till Sunday evening. Our Mirpurkhas correspondent adds:
Scores of growers whose land is situated at the tail-end area of Kherao Shakh blocked the Sindhri road for about an hour in protest against farmers of the upper stretch of the canal for violating an agreement over water-sharing.
A contingent of police, led by the station house officer of the Dilber Mahar police station, reached there to restore vehicular traffic.
Farmers told police that there had been an agreement between growers of tail-end areas and the head-reach to use water on alternate week. But the latter had violated the accord, leading to an acute shortage of water at the tail-end.
The protesters dispersed after the SHO, after talking to irrigation officials, assured them that they would received their share of water.
