KARACHI: Australia women’s cricket team all-rounder Ellyse Perry has been selected in the Australia squad for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Germany starting this month.

Ellyse Perry, 20, was player of the match in the final of the ICC World Twenty20 championship which Australia won in 2010.

Following the announcement from Football Federation Australia (FFA), Cricket Australia (CA) General Manager Michael Brown took the opportunity to congratulate the all-rounder on her selection.

“Cricket Australia congratulates Ellyse on being selected in the squad for the FIFA Women’s World Cup and we wish her and the team all the best for the tournament,” Brown said.

“We are very proud of Ellyse and what she has been able to accomplish at such a young age. She juggles a busy life that includes mixing international cricket and football, as well as university commitments, but has proven she is more than capable of excelling at all.

“We look forward to watching her in action in Germany and welcoming her back — hopefully as a dual world champion — into the squad in the summer,” he said.—MM
