MARDAN, June 7: A sixth grade student of the government high school, Sawaldher, was beaten black and blue by his teacher for going out of the class to drink water without the class monitor's permission.

Talking to this correspondent on Tuesday, Tajul Islam, father of the student Shahabul Islam, claimed that his son was severely beaten with stick by his teacher Khushaal Khan on Saturday last.

Mr Taj said that his son showed him the wounds on his back and legs upon his return from the school, but he thought Shahab would recover soon. He, however, said that the wounds developed infection, which forced him to admit his son to Mardan Medical Hospital.

Mr Shahab told this scribe on phone that he went out of class to drink water just a minute before the teacher's arrival and the class monitor complained against him to the teacher. “The teacher put me on the table and severely beat me with stick on my back and upper part of my right leg,” the sixth grader said.

Mr Taj claimed that the teacher had thrashed his son so badly that he had also lost one nail on a right hand finger. He said that he had complained to the school principal against the teacher, but the same day the teacher visited his home and threatened him of dire consequences if he registered FIR of the case.

“The orthopedic surgeon at the Mardan Medical Complex has also carried out surgery of the wounds,” Shahab's father said and demanded of the authorities concerned to carry out an impartial inquiry into the corporal punishment case and take action against the school teacher.
