SUKKUR, May 30: A civil court remanded on Monday a nurse, a midwife and a man in police custody for a week in a case of forced abortion.

The complainant, Ms Perween, had lodged an FIR, alleging that her cousin Mauj Ali forcibly took her to the nurse Shoukat Begum in Mirpur Mathelo on Sunday where the midwife Mukhtiaran Shaikh terminated her five-month pregnancy.

Perween told the police that she had no contact with her family since her marriage. However a fortnight ago, the relations between her and her parents were revived after they assured her that they had accepted her marriage.

During a visit to her parents' house, she said, Mauj Ali forcibly took her to the house of the nurse where the abortion was performed against her will.

She said that her family punished her for choosing husband of her choice without their consent. Dawn
