PML(N) offers support to Fazl

Published October 23, 2002

LAHORE, Oct 22: The PML(N) said on Tuesday that it would extend an unconditional support to Maulana Fazlur Rehman as candidate for the office of the prime minister provided he did not join hands with the B-team of the regime.

The message was given to an MMA delegation which met the PML(N) leaders to seek support for the JUI(F) chief.

The MMA delegation comprised Liaquat Baloch, Pir Ijaz Hashmi and Farid Paracha. The PML(N) was represented by Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa, Khawaja Saad Rafiq and Tehmina Daultana.

Saad Rafiq said the PML(N) would be happy if the PPP stood on the side of the MMA.

He said parties which had signed various APC declarations must stand by their commitments.

To a question about cooperation between the MMA and the PML(Q), Liaquat Baloch said he would be in a position to say something after Oct 24, the day heads of the MMA components are due to meet in Islamabad to discuss the situation.

Tehmina Daultana said there could be no consensus on a government under the leadership of Gen Musharraf.
