ISLAMABAD, May 22: Two persons taking part in a rally brought out by PPP youth wing were injured when one of the participants resorted to firing into the air here on Sunday.

The injured, Waqas Ahmed and Shamshad, were taken to hospital where they were stated to be out of danger.

The rally held in favour of 'democracy' and President Asif Ali Zardari started from Sitara Market towards Melody Chowk.

When it was passing through Hospital Road, one of the activists riding a motorcycle opened the fire near Polyclinic, creating panic among the participants.

Assistant Superintendent of Police, city circle, Faisal Bashir Memon said the shots were fired by an activist of the PPP young wing.

He said the accused identified as Pilly Shah escaped from the scene but an attempt to murder case was registered against him with the Aabpara police.

Later, the participants of the rally dispersed peacefully. It may be noted that aerial firing and display of arms are banned in the capital territory.
