HARIPUR, May 21: Police claimed to have seized a stolen oil tanker and large quantity of fuel, meant for Nato forces in Afghanistan, and arrested three accused.

The cost of the stolen fuel was reported to be in millions. Police said that on an intelligence report they seized a 22-wheeler oil tanker loaded with fuel that was parked at a roadside eatery on G.T. Road near village Shah Mohammad on Friday night.

Police arrested two drivers and a cleaner from the tanker. The arrested persons said that they were employed with a Karachi-based private firm contracted to supplying fuel to Nato forces in Afghanistan.

On Thursday they left for Afghanistan with their oil tanker No. 696-TLE, carrying over 60,000 litres of JP8 oil but diverted the vehicle on Haripur Road because they wanted to sell it to somebody.

However, it was not known as to who they wanted to sell the oil, which was reportedly used in fighter jets by the Nato forces in Afghanistan.—Correspondent
