THE administration of justice is the firmest pillar of any successful nation. Two Christians, who were initially accused of blasphemy, were released by Gujranwala police after the charge proved false. This has happened in Pakistan which is considered a haven for some extremist groups for the last few years.

The chief of Gujranwala police, Ghulam Muhammad Doger, and his team did a marvelous job in providing justice when he warned the rioters in Azizabad Colony: “You will only be able to attack Christians over our dead bodies.”

It happened in the same province where four months ago Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer was gunned down by his own bodyguard for his stance over the blasphemy law. A few months later, the Federal Minister for Minorities Shahbaz Bhatti, who was the only Christian member of the cabinet, was killed outside his residence in Islamabad.

Both incidents have put a halt to the debate over extremism due to fear of religious extremists. In these circumstances the Gujranwala police have done a great job. We are proud of them. I live in the US and we Muslims get similar protection by law - enforcement agencies here. This is the secret of success of any nation.
