ISLAMABAD, Oct 21: The ad-hoc Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Monday submitted its report on the audit of accounts for the year 1999-2000 to President Gen Pervez Musharraf for his concurrence.

In his remarks, the president appreciated the working and results shown by the committee.

As a number of recommendations of the PAC require changes in the ‘Rules of Business’, it was decided that the rules would be referred to parliament for approval.

The committee, in its report, has ordered for the recovery of Rs7643.58 million on account of gross financial irregularities, culpable negligence and misuse of power from various persons/departments/organizations concerned. Subsequent to their recommendations and directives, a recovery of Rs2335.6345 million has already been materialised from various persons/departments/organizations.

The PAC members highlighted the need for monitoring the follow-up of the committee’s directives and recommendations. They recommended that the implementation section of PAC, established temporarily in the National Assembly secretariat, may be given permanent status and the future National Assembly should make policy recommendations in this regard.
