TAXILA, May 13: A worker of a factory tried to commit suicide by jumping into a foundry in Hassanabdal on Friday following his row with the factory supervisor.

According to sources, Mohammad Shabbir exchanged hot words with his supervisor who threatened to expel him from the factory as was done a few months back. In utter frustration, he jumped into the working foundry and received severe burn injuries on his legs.

He was taken to POF Hospital, Wah Cantt from where he was shifted to Social Security Hospital, Rawalpindi due to his critical condition.

When contacted factory's technical director Zafar Sadiq said that no such incident occurred in the factory as he was not aware of any such incident. However, talking to this reporter Admin Officer Faisal Eman confirmed the incident. He said that the injured worker had been shifted to the hospital in the factory ambulance for treatment and he was probing the matter.

It has been learnt that the KSB pumps administration was trying to sweep the incident under the carpet and using traditional tactics to force the members of the worker's family not to report the matter to the police.

The family was also being pressurised not to inform media about the incident.

The worker's family claimed that Shabbir was expelled from the factory and was re-appointed a few months back.

They said that he was in distress due to anti-worker policy of the factory administration and harsh attitude of his supervisors. They said that the factory administration was trying to hush up the issue.
