GAZA, Oct 20: At least four Palestinians and one Israeli army officer were injured on Sunday during clashes in the Khan Younis town, medical and security sources reported.

The security sources said that Palestinian militants and Israeli soldiers exchanged fire west of the town after the militants opened fire on an Israeli army armoured vehicle passing through the area. One Israeli soldier was seriously injured, according to Palestinian witnesses, who said that an Israeli army ambulance took the wounded soldier from the area.

Medical sources at Nasser Hospital said that four Palestinians were brought to the hospital with moderate wounds, adding that Israeli army tanks fired several tanks shells at the residential area of Khan Younis after the soldier was injured.—dpa
