KARACHI, May 5: A local leader of the Ahl-e-Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ), formerly known as Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan, was killed and his two aides were wounded in an attack in North Nazimabad on Thursday, police and party sources said.

They said two motorbikes intercepted Saud-ur-Rahman in Block B of North Nazimabad while he was walking to Subhani Masjid with Laeeq and Habibur Rahman.

“Some witnesses told us that they saw two of total four riders getting off their bikes before pulling out pistols and firing a few shots,” said SP of the North Nazimabad Town Chaudary Asad.

“The attackers mainly targeted Saud, who suffered three to four bullet wounds and died on the spot.”

The SP said that Laeeq and Habib did not sustain life-threatening wounds and were later shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

The firing caused panic in the locality, causing closure of shops and other businesses.

The police said that the body was handed over to the family after medico-legal formalities.

An ASWJ spokesman condemned the killing and the gun attack on the party workers and called it an ‘organised conspiracy against sectarian harmony’.

“The deceased Saud-ur-Rahman was party’s North Nazimabad town head and a resident of Moosa Colony,” he said.
