Tanker owners threaten strike

Published October 20, 2002

FAISALABAD, Oct 19: The All Pakistan Oil Tankers Owners Association will observe a countrywide strike on all depots of the Pakistan State Oil from Oct 21 in protest against PSO management indifference’.

Talking to newsmen here on Saturday, APOTOA chairman Sharafat Ali said the PSO management, including logistic cells incharge, were evolving negative policies just to ‘blackmail’ the tanker owners.

He said that PSO authorities had asked tanker owners to deposit Rs500,000 as security to get them registered and enrolled with the PSO. He also criticized the PSO decision of removing pre-1996 models from its lists of vehicles.

PSO managers were also not entertaining the demand of increase in fares, he said.

He said the decision to observe the strike had been taken after a meeting of the association and other related bodies.
