NAWABSHAH, May 3: Armed robbers looted Rs1 million in cash from the employees of a fibreboard factory near Shahpur Jehanian on Tuesday.

Manager Khawar Arain and guard Rehman were going to the factory after withdrawing cash for the salaries of factory employees from a bank.

Four armed motorcyclists intercepted them and snatched Rs1 million cash from them.

The robbers opened fire when the manager and the guard offered resistance, injuring the manager. He was taken to People's Medical College Hospital, Nawabshah.

Later, employees of the factory blocked National Highway near Shahpur Jehanian to protest against the incident, suspending vehicular traffic.

Police officials and local political leaders reached the place of the protest and assured the protesters of arrest of the robbers and recovery of looted cash on which they lifted the blockade.

Members of the Sindh Dahiri Ittehad took out a procession here on Tuesday to protest against police failure to arrest the killers of a senior lawyer, Ali Mohammed Dahiri.

The procession started from Sakrand road and ended outside the press Club. The protesters were carrying banners and placards and raising slogans. They demanded a judicial inquiry into the murder case.

Meanwhile, lawyers continued boycott of court proceedings here in protest against murder.
