HYDERABAD, Oct 19: A group of Thari people from Tharparkar district on Saturday staged a demonstration outside the local press club to protest against the atrocities of the Arbabs.

The protesters, led by the Qasimabad College unit of the Manghwar Students Welfare Association, blamed the Arbabs of targeting the poor people of Tharparkar who had voted against them in the general elections.

Speakers on the occasion criticised the Arbabs of filing a large number of false cases against the poor people of the area.

They accused the local police of supporting the Arbabs and harassing the Thari people.

They accused the Arbabs of rigging the polls besides demanding re-polling and removal of the district police officer.

Those, who spoke on the occasion, included Ashok Najar, Phelam, Parkash, Engineer Giyan Chand, the candidate from PS-60, Qambar Dal, Sher Ali, Abdur Raheem Khoso and Karim Dino Dal.

Meanwhile, the central committee of ‘Mazloom Thar Ittihad’ also called upon the authorities to take notice of the inhuman excesses perpetrated by the Arbabs against the Manghwar community and other Tharis.

The meeting, which was presided over by Amar Buroro, was held at the Thar House, GOR Colony, here on Friday.

The meeting decided to observe a protest day on Oct 25.
