LAHORE, April 27: A 30-year-old man died of torture in the Green Town police custody on Wednesday. Green Town police officials picked Ziaullah, of Okara, a couple of days ago from an undisclosed location and subjected him to severe torture during investigation which led to his death, a police official told Dawn seeking anonymity. He said the victim, who was an alleged hardened criminal and a history-sheeter, was arrested a couple of days ago.

He said a case had been registered against an ASI and three police constables.

Sources at the Jinnah Hospital’s mortuary also confirmed marks of bruises on all body parts.

BURNT: Two people, including a 12-year-old boy, were burnt to death and their master suffered life-threatening burns when a fire broke out in an auto shop in load-shedding at Jallo Bazaar in Batapur on Wednesday.

Shahzeb Masih and Asif Nazir, 35, died instantly while Asghar Bhola, the shop owner, was admitted to Mayo Hospital with critical burns.

Batapur circle DSP Iqbal Husain Shah told Dawn the fire broke out when a burning candle fell on mobile oil.

SHOT DEAD: An 18-year-old girl was killed while her 20-year-old sister injured when a young man opened fire on them near Tariq Hospital in Misri Shah on Wednesday.

Misri Shah police said suspect Muhammad Nadeem Khan fired at Ayesha and her sister Noureen after Ayesha broke up with him.

The injured were admitted to Mayo Hospital where Ayesha succumbed to her wounds.
