LAHORE, April 21: An additional district and sessions judge on Thursday ordered registration of a criminal case against a deputy superintendent of police for allegedly releasing a proclaimed offender from police station.

The court issued theses orders on a petition, filed by a police inspector, Ghulam Dastagir, seeking registration of a case against Chuhng DSP Mansoor Qamar.

The petitioner contended his wife, Shahnaz, and father Yasin were allegedly killed by Iqbal sometime ago. He said as the police officials initially failed to arrest the accused they declared him (Iqbal) a proclaimed offender.

He said the respondent, DSP Qamar, heading the team investigating the case, succeeded in arresting Iqbal.

The DSP, instead of taking legal action against the arrested accused, allowed him to walk free, the petitioner informed the court.

The court, after hearing the final arguments and going through the evidence and witnesses statements, directed Punjab police to register a criminal case against the DSP.
