9 outlaws arrested ISLAMABAD, April 16: Nine outlaws, including three female beggars, were arrested by the capital police on Saturday and recovered hashish, wine, weapons and looted items from their possession, a police spokesman said.

The Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) intercepted a vehicle during routine patrolling on suspicion. During search, the CIA officials found 15 bottles of wine. They arrested the car driver. In another incident, the Sabzi Mandi police arrested two persons and seized 1.3kg hashish and a 30-bore pistol from them. Shahzad Town police also arrested a bootlegger and recovered liquor from him.

Similarly, the Golra police arrested two alleged thieves and recovered stolen items worth Rs120,000 from them.

Meanwhile, three female beggars were arrested from different localities of the capital. Separate cases were registered against them under Beggary Act. SSP Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan directed the police officials to further intensify campaign against anti-social elements and make effective patrolling in their respective areas. — Staff Reporter Media university project ISLAMABAD, April 16: The government is working on a project to establish a media university under the Federal Ministry for Information.

This was stated by Information Minister Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan while speaking as chief guest at a two-day workshop on ‘Gender discrimination and capacity building of female journalists’ at National Press Club here on Saturday.

She said the project would be a joint venture and the government was in contact with China for this purpose. She said the women journalists would be assigned important tasks in this project to enhance women role in the national media. — Staff Reporter Minor burnt to death TALAGANG, April 16: A three-year-old girl was burnt to death when fire erupted in her house in Lawah village near here on Friday evening.

As per reports, fire suddenly erupted in the house of Pattan Khan in Lawah village which burnt a three-year-old girl, cow and a goat. The girl died before she could be taken to the hospital. —Correspondent Nuclear safety seminar on 21st ISLAMABAD, April 16: A three-day international seminar on the significance of safety and security regimes while regulating nuclear power plants would be held here on April 21.

The seminar with the title of ‘Nuclear Safety and Security Challenges of the twenty-first century’ would be organised by Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority (PNRA) at the National Center for Physics in connection with tenth anniversary of its launch.

The official sources said that Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani was expected to address the seminar which would bring together nuclear safety and nuclear security experts from operating organisations, designers, regulators, researchers and academia to discuss various ways to improve regulatory effectiveness for the public and environment protection.— Our Reporter
