BAHAWALPUR, Oct 15: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) will contest the NA-187 (Bahawalpur-VI) by-polls. The seat is most likely to be vacated by PPP’s Chaudhury Aitzaz Ahsan who also won NA-124 from Lahore.

Earlier, the MMA did not field any candidate for NA-187 covering Yazman tehsil. Sources said alliance’s local leaders would convey their choice (of candidate) to the central leadership in a few days.

The PPP will also like to field a potential candidate to retain the seat. According to party circles here, District Nazim Tariq Cheema is best bet if he agrees to quit his present office.

Meanwhile, Muzammal Abbasi, MPA-elect from PP-268 (Bahawalpur-II) is likely to join the PML-Q.

Elected as an independent, Mr Muzammal Abbasi hasbeen motivated by Nawab Salahuddin Abbasi, who is PML-Q vice-president and had supported Abbasi in his campaign.

CLASHES: Five peoples were injured in clashes in Yazman and Khairpur Tamewali over election rivalry.

In Chak 109-DB, Yazman (NA-187), armed men of a political party allegedly opened fire, injuring Muhammad Latif, his son Munir and uncle Muhammad Sarwar.

In Khairpur Tamewali suburbs, two people were injured in a clash between political rivals.
