ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Finance and Economic Affairs Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh on Saturday directed the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to devise a mechanism for minimizing the gap between the number of NTN (National Taxation Number) holders and the actual tax payers.

Hafeez said that there will be no compensation for the tax evaders.

He was talking to the members of the FBR in the second meeting of Broadening Tax Base, in the Ministry of Finance here.

Hafeez further said that action will be taken against those who deliberately file lower incomes.

He also directed the FBR to constitute a special team of selected officers and staff to process the devised mechanism and assured in this regard of full cooperation not only from his ministry but by any other governmental organization including the NADRA.

During the meeting it was observed that all NTN holders are not tax filers, and NTN, were required for every citizen only when financial transactions were done.

The Minister directed the FBR to prepare a report of the ongoing process of netting the tax evaders, and submit it by June 30.
